Meet PerfectTed

We’re making matcha as ubiquitous as coffee. What started as three friends at a kitchen table in London is now in 50,000+ locations across 50+ countries, in five years. Here’s how we got here.

2021 Three friends. One big idea.

Marisa Poster, Teddie Levenfiche and Levi Levenfiche met at university in the USA with one shared ambition: make matcha mainstream. They built the first recipes at a London kitchen table, launched on Kickstarter and set out to create the ultimate ready-to-drink matcha latte. Then their manufacturer pulled out. So they pivoted, created Matcha Energy and launched it at London Coffee Festival. It wasn’t the plan, and it turned out to be a better one.

    2022 The proof

Planet Organic and Holland & Barrett said yes, and PerfectTed hit shelves for the first time. We swapped the dining room for our first office in Queen’s Park, built our first team and walked into the Den to pitch to five Dragons. A very big year was coming.

  3. a group of people sitting in a theater

    2023 The breakthrough

Our Dragons’ Den episode aired and all five Dragons made an offer. Steven Bartlett and Peter Jones invested. Then we launched nationwide in Tesco and joined the Meal Deal in around 1,200 stores. We went global with Joe & The Juice and co-developed the Blueberry Matcha Latte with Blank Street. Matcha was moving out of the niche, and PerfectTed was leading the charge.

    2024 The acceleration

Matcha was having a moment, and we made sure it lasted. We launched in our first international markets, starting with the Netherlands. We rebuilt our brand from the ground up, added Juicy Peach to the Matcha Energy line-up and launched flavoured powders and pods to bring café-quality matcha home. Our founders were named in Forbes 30 Under 30.

  5. a person pouring green liquid into a cup

    2025 Category leader

Flavoured Matcha Lattes landed in Tesco, Waitrose and Holland & Barrett, and our Blueberry Matcha Latte powder went viral. The numbers followed. We held a 55% share of the UK grocery matcha market¹, were ranked the UK’s fastest-growing retail brand² and took the top spot in the FEBE Growth 100³. From a challenger brand to the brand setting the pace.

    2026 Going global

Five years in, PerfectTed is in more than 50,000 locations across 50+ countries, from Woolworths in Australia to Albert Heijn in the Netherlands. Back home, we hold a 91% share of the UK grocery matcha market⁴. We’ve grown into a team of nearly 100, and we’re getting ready for our biggest launch yet: America.

We’re not here to make matcha a moment. We’re here to make it mainstream.
